Just about a day after Microsoft ended support for Windows XP Service Pack 2, Microsoft also ended support for Windows Server 2000.  Is anyone still running Win2k?  Getting rid of the technical debt required to keep releasing patches and providing support to these grandpa OSs is sure to help Microsoft as it drives forward with its relevant products – so all in all, good news! It’s interesting that all the drop in support which has been public knowledge for a LONG TIME coincides with the release of the Windows 7 SP1 Beta and Server 2008 R2 SP1 Beta but not impressive enough to think very hard on.   Anyway, if you’re one of those shops whose running ancient Microsoft products, feel free to use this link to review the Microsoft support timelines / life-cycles for all of Microsoft’s products.
